The technology gap to the leaders is roughly one to two product cycles — about two to four years — but in specific niches, the company holds competitive ground. The market context matters. The threat level from Chinese entrants is moderate — they compete effectively at mid-speed products but still lag in 800G+ and CPO applications. The defense moat is the 12-18 month customer qualification cycle and the proprietary laser chip design and manufacturing IP. The activist pressure creates a different risk. Forced strategic pivots often destroy value.
